General Guidelines for Submission of Abstracts

Papers, posters, and symposia will be selected that best exemplify the state of nursing science in the particular area. Only abstracts derived from completed research will be accepted. Research that has been previously presented at a national meeting or published will not be eligible for presentation. Abstracts should clearly specify how the work contributes to the current state of nursing science. Areas of special interest reflect the conference theme: Determinants of Health. Authors may submit multiple abstracts. Abstract presenters must be a member of the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science at the time of presentation.

  • Top-scoring abstracts will be acknowledged at the conference and authors may be invited to submit a full-length manuscript for peer review by Nursing Outlook
  • Top-scoring abstracts from students/trainees will receive recognition.

The abstract submission website will be open January 11, 2016 at: http://www.conferenceabstracts.com/CANS2016.htm.You may edit your abstract through Monday, March 28, 2016. After March 28, 11:59 pm ET, your abstract is considered final and will be reviewed based on the content provided.

The cost for submitting abstracts for peer review is $25.  If your abstract is accepted, there will be an additional charge of $75 to submit your symposium, podium presentation, or poster.  You will be expected to pay the conference registration fee before September 1, 2016.  Information regarding the conference, including the conference registration fees, will be available on the Council website in the coming months.

Posters will be displayed electronically on monitors at a scheduled time during the conference, and will be included in an online poster gallery following the conference.  This poster gallery can be accessed by the public, with your permission, upon receipt of the abstract submission fee and conference registration payment.  You will also have a 15 minute session at the conference to present your poster and discuss your poster with attendees.

Would You Like to Propose a Symposium?

If you would like to propose a symposium, each presenter needs to submit individual abstracts for review. Once everyone has submitted their abstracts and payments, email [email protected] with the title of the symposium, as well as a list of all authors and abstract titles, so that we can make the proper group assignments.

Your Abstract Should Include the Following Components (underlined):

Title: A brief statement of the nature of the investigation or purpose of the project.

Authors: All authors and affiliations.

Aims: The overall purpose, research question, or study hypothesis.

Methods: The study or project design and methods (sample, procedures, measures, and/or data

analysis).  Please note that the study can use qualitative or quantitative methods.

Results: The study or project findings or products.

Conclusions: The overall impact of findings and relevance to nursing, healthcare, or health policy.
